Several LC-2 in vivo successful modifications paired the original functional with different (local) exchange functionals to boost overall performance, and also the successor vdW-DF2 additionally updated one internal parameter. Joining together different ideas from practically 2 decades of development and assessment, we present the next-generation nonlocal correlation functional called vdW-DF3, in which we replace the practical type while staying true to the original design viewpoint.
